Floating Shelves: Will They Hold and Fit?
The short answer
Floating shelves live or die on their anchoring: brackets rated for your load, screwed into studs, not drywall alone. A depth of about 8–10 inches holds everyday dishware. Measure the stud spacing and the clear span above the counter, and if you are a renter avoiding wall holes, consider a freestanding unit instead.
